My daily life in SST Class - Ashwin Kidambi,

I am going to start with the first class of SST. In my first class we started about maps and globes. We learnt the different features of the map. We learnt the different features of a globe. We learnt the difference between a map and a globe. Then the advantages and disadvantages for both. We learnt the types of maps
which were the Physical map, Political map and the thematic map. Then we learnt the components of a map.
Then at last we learnt the Conventional symbols in this. The next chapter I/we started to work on was Climate on Earth. We discussed about what is a weather, climate and season. We started differentiate these three. Then when we have learnt all these acharya told us to identify the weather that day. After that acharya told us to write Chennai’s climate and tell advices like what cloth should we wear. Acharya told us to write the weeks weather on our own. We next learnt the impact of weather in our daily life after it we went to a Meteorological Department and saw the different weather instruments. Next we learnt the climatic zones. After that we learnt the Factors influencing the Climate. We learnt six factors which were Distance from the Sea, Direction of the Wind, Ocean Currents, Distance from the Equator, Altitude and the Location of the
Mountains. After that we did the features of the Equatorial zone. We learnt about the Arid Zone/The Deserts and we also studied about the Important Deserts in the World. Now we wrote the Features of the Tempurate and Polar Zones. At last we are learning about Global Warming.

MAP AND GLOBE
Similarities and Differences between map and globe

Similarities between map and globe :
* Both are colour coded .
* Both indicates sea , ocean ,continents , islands , river etc.

Differences between map and globe :
*Globe is spherical in shape and it is a model of earth.
Maps are flat, drawn representation of earth.
* With a globe we can conduct the day and night experiment .
With a map no such experiments can be done we can only identify
the places and indicate them .
*Globes are not easily portable.
   Maps are eaily portable.
*In a Map each continent can be drawn and viewed seperately which is not possible with a Globe
   because of its spherical shape.

Maps and Globes

A map is a piece of paper in which we can locate places .There are three major types of maps political map , physical map and thematic map. A political map shows state and country borders. A physical map shows how the surface of the earth looks like , mountains and water bodies . A thematic map are based on a particular theme for eg; Indian railways map .A map is a 2d shape . At the bottom of the map there are circles which show the time .

Globes; A globe is a modle of the earth. A globe is much similar to the map but the globe is a 3d shape. On the top of the globe there is a black circle which shows the time . Globes are of many sizes .

What is a thematic map? Name 2?
